Connect a Smart TV

While many TVs will work we suggest the LG Smart Series TV.

  • Connect the LG Smart TV to your WiFi
  • Temporarily Connect a keyboard to the USB port
  • From the Main Menu, Open the internet Browser
  • Connect to https://www.dsscheckin.com/login/tv/?s=SYSTEMID
    • (insert your systemid)
  • Set to Full Screen

The display will automatically refresh every 10-15 seconds

Running the lobby TV through a PC connection

You can also connect any TV using a PC connected to the HDMI port

Make a shortcut on the PC to this link and run it

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --kiosk www.dsscheckin.com/login/tv/?s=SYSTEMID --edge-kiosk-type=fullscreen

This method is often used to incorporate sound to call customers and sync multiple TVs

Configuring the TV display settings for a DSS Check In system

Configure the TV options

Go to Main Menu->Configuration

  • TV Title
    • Shown at top of the TV Display. Usually company name.
  • TV Order
    • List of names in descending or ascending order
  • Show ticket number
    • If your kiosk is using the ticket printer this will show the number instead of a name.
  • Only Show last 4 of Phone
    • This is a feature meant to allow staff to call a person by the last 4 numbers of their phone number instead of their name.
  • Show Estimate Wait time
    • The average time between check in and acknowledge. Be careful as people will expect to be served in this amount of time.
  • Wait Message
    • The message shown after check in and before acknowledge.
  • Ack Message
    • The message shown after clicking acknowledge
  • TV Font Size
    • Allows all text to be resized on the TV
  • Rotate TV
    • Allows for the TV to be physically rotated to a portrait mode. Allows more entries to be listed on the screen.

Using Images with the TV display

The lobby TV display can be configured to rotate through images beside the list of customers being served. Advertising, announcements and general displays can be used to enhance the TV display. Images may be uploaded using the TV configuration interface. Images are relatively square (1000x1000 pixels) but should be tested to make sure they fit your TV.

  • Images should be jpg or png format
  • Images should be square ratio (600x600 pixels)
  • Images will be rotated with each refresh of the screen (~10-15 seconds)
  • Upload the images, then pick the image for display

Calling names using the TV Display

The lobby TV display can call names as they are acknowledged. Most TVs will not play the sound so we incorporate a stick computer connected to the HDMI port of the TV. This device is a Windows based PC that connects the browser to the link given above and the sound is done through the TV. If you would also like to have multiple TVs, this device or any other Windows based computer device is a needed. An HDMI splitter setup to connect the other TVs is added to make sure all the Tvs are synchronized both in display and sound.

  • Stick computer connected to the TV HDMI port is needed
  • May be used to connect other TV units using an HDMI splitter
